Metis London

METIS was founded in 2016 as an antithesis to the mass produced, anonymous production processes and opaque supply chain industry. What we stand for is complete transparency in making luxury goods, where we celebrate every process imbued with craftsmanship and cherish each supplier that shares our values.

METIS is a small team of designers, artisans and craftsmen, trained in the extraordinary art of making handmade shoes and with a sense of innovation deeply rooted in tradition. Everything we make is made by hand. .

METIS' Creative Director, multi-disciplinary designer Alexandru Adam initially trained as an artist, gaining a place on the prestigious Kultur Kontakt artists in residence programme in Vienna, Austria, as a teenager. After graduating with a BA in Product Design from Central Saint Martins in 2005, Adam pursued an MA in Fashion at the best and most respected art and design university in the world, the Royal College of Art. He specialised in men's and women's accessories. Amongst his many accolades, he took first prize in the Manolo Blahnik Design Award in 2009 and was the joint winner of the IFF Thierry Mugler award in 2009. After working for Thierry Mugler in Paris being responsible for designing all their accessories as well as working on clothing and perfumes projects, Adam returned to London where he was responsible with designing all the shoes for one of fashion's most loved icons, Vivienne Westwood. After he left Westwood he launched his own accessories label. With commercial experience across a broad spectrum of design media, from handmade to manufacturing Adam brings a holistic understanding of the design process to his work, which is imbued with an unusual rigour, obsession for detail and subtlety. At the beginning of 2016, he co-founded Metis to create the finest quality casual wear, a perfect symbiosis between traditional craftsmanship and luxury goods manufacturing.
